For decades the only way to ship frozen goods in international ocean container service was in mechanically refrigerated "reefer" containers. The mechanical reefer is a capital-intensive, polluting, high maintenance, specialized marine container that requires costly special handling on the ship, in the terminal and while being trucked on land. These special handling requirements have been a problem for the steamship lines and the cargo shippers.
Cryo-Power has developed a new type of refrigerated container that eliminates all of the special handling requirements.

Non-Mechanical Refrigeration
The Cryo-Power refrigeration system is passive (i.e., it does not require any kind of mechanical device to keep the cargo refrigerated). It can maintain refrigerated temperatures over 30 days - long enough for virtually all world trade lanes with a single charge of "food grade" CO2. The Cryo-Power container can even be recharged in transit for longer holding or shipping periods, such as inland transportation. The Cryo-Power container can be stored anywhere on any vessel that can accommodate "dry" (un-refrigerated) ocean freight containers. This is vitally important to the vessel operator because a typical dry freight load does not generate anywhere near the revenue of a refrigerated shipment.
A Cryo-Power ocean freight container can be shipped on many modes of transportation without the concern of an outside power source or a mechanical breakdown; this is a major advantage to this type of refrigeration technology. Because a Cryo-Power container doesn't need to be plugged in, it can be shipped anywhere.
The Cryo-Power system has been in operation in railcars and ocean freight containers for years. The system has proven to be safe and extremely reliable. In fact one of the users of a Cryo-Power railcar has over 20,000 shipments without a loss of cargo due to a failure of the refrigeration system. All of the major shippers of french fry potatoes use cryogenic refrigeration systems because of its reliability and cost effectiveness.
